Listening to good music is one of life's great pleasures and it's something we can all enjoy in those times when we can relax and switch off from the stresses of daily life. Whether you prefer to listen to recorded music on CDs, on the radio or if you like to go to live concerts to watch bands or musicians play their music for real in front of an audience, it's down to your own preference.
Personally, I prefer to watch live bands play because it takes a lot of skill and ability to be able to play real musical instruments and sing in a live situation, no matter of I'm watching a big professional band in a large auditorium or a small local band playing in a bar.
The hard work and dedication that goes into learning to play an instrument and then practising for hours every day to become proficient to a level that makes it possible to play in a band is incredible. Most people have no idea just how much goes into it.
Many people these days are fooled into believing that a group of singing teenagers (boy or girl "bands") constitutes a live band. It does not because these people, while they may be good singers do not play any musical instruments up there on stage. This is not real live music as I understand it. It's just singers singing on a stage to backing music provided by session musicians or worse, to pre-recorded backing tracks.
You may have guessed that I am a semi-professional musician who plays in a small local band. I have that appreciation for real musicians who work hard to be able to bring their music to the people that like to go and see them perform in small bars and clubs. If you have never seen a "bar" band play, treat yourself and go watch one. You might be pleasantly surprised at just how good they can be. But don't expect note exactness and audio perfection - this is manufactured by the record industry and is not representative of real live music.
You get to see real people play real instruments and sing for real, mistakes and all! It's real and to really appreciate music I believe you need to get real and se the real thing. Don't be fooled by the music industry that just wants your money for manufactured, bland and mind-numbingly lack-lustre junk!
Keep music live and support the live bands that don't have recording contracts or deals with anyone. These are the grass roots people that are doing it for real and they don't ask for or expect your support. This is really music to my ears. So give it to them and make their day!
